Author:

EricEric Hancock is an illustrator born and educated in the classic dairy state of Wisconsin. With a BFA in Illustration from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. Venturing playfully into worlds of magical realism, the work is heavily influenced by classic fairy tales and mythologies as well as the epic media of cinema. From his earliest days of memory, he remembers begging his mother to take him to see Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi in the theatre only standing eye level with the table covered in movie listings, the table which he owns to this day. Many movies and years later he watches Battlestar Galactica: The Re-imagined Series. Currently working from a modest apartment in the heart of suburban Milwaukee, Eric continues to visualize all the fantastic and mundane worlds his brain can squeeze out for editorials, narrative stories and advertisements. On some occasions with the paint, most times with the pencil. Online Store: www.digitalsnowmen.com Portfolio site: www.eric-hancock.com

The Friendship Show (Distance Recap)

Posted by – April 3, 2012

Lots of fun things happen when you’re least expecting or planning or available. Hot*pop in Milwaukee’s Third Ward, a boutique dedicated to designer toys, apparels, books and more, recently curated a show of some of the midwest’s finest up and coming creatives. Dwellephant, Chad Edwards, Greenbeanbaby (Ellia Hill), Fred Kaems, Eric Hancock (me), Catherine Palmeno, Dierdre Hatton, Jeremy Pettis, and Cara Corder joined forces to collectively bask in the wonders if the newly turned seasonal change and spread their talent in one of my favorite gallery spaces in the city. Intimate, comfortable, and full of awesome guests and hosts.

Alas, I was unable to be there during the opening reception but my pal Chris took some great pics to capture the spirited nature of the event running through May 18th with another Gallery Night & Day in the near future from April 20-21st. Check out the pics and stop on by Hot*pop, 213 N. Broadway Milwaukee, WI

Cat Outta Hell II :: The Process.

Posted by – February 1, 2012

So I recently was a part of another of Milwaukee’s fantastic group shows. The theme revolved around covering or recreating a book, a movie, an album, a video game or whatever’s cover. Covering a cover. Whoa. A topic I spent many hours on pondering from Highlander to Legend to something more involved like Labyrinth. Books? Lord of the Rings, Dune, Confederacy of Dunces? Hrrm. I ended up going to iTunes and utilizing the “COVER”flow feature and tripped through some Michael Jackson, Michael Penn and finally fell face first into Meatloaf. Double Whoa. Here’s the process from sketch to final:

Tea Towel Calendar Collaboration

Posted by – December 19, 2011

This marks the second time that my fiancée Karen and I have collaborated on a project. Completely illustrated by Karen (I drew the beaver though), this tea towel/flour sack calendar is ~26″ x 26″ celebrating the upcoming year and available for holiday splendor and gift giving. Use it for a tapestry wall hanging, under glass on the coffee table or desk, or perhaps just to wipe your hands on the days to come?! Such a fun process that inspires further collaboration.

Love to hear your thoughts or just check it out over at the Digital Snowshop!

Lightning and Castle Thunder..!

Some great working relationships deserve collaboration. Castle Thunder, whom you may have heard me talk about in the past is on the cusp of releasing the long awaited EP, Wolf in Sheepskin. To celebrate and expand on their branding, we’ve put together the amazing two color screen printed poster (printed by Orchard Street Press who did my last poster for Valley Maker). Cyan and Fire Red on Whip Cream #100 French Paper! Such excitement. Available at the Digital Snowshop. I think the images will speak for themselves:
